Ryan L. Boudreau, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, where he is also affiliated with the Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center and the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. His research focuses on how genes are controlled after transcription, with particular emphasis on RNA-binding proteins and microRNAs that regulate cardiovascular and neurological function in both health and disease. Dr. Boudreau’s laboratory integrates computational “big data” analyses with high-throughput biochemical and in vivo approaches, including AAV-based gene modulation and CRISPR-generated mouse models, to define pathogenic and protective pathways that can be targeted therapeutically. He also investigates microproteins encoded by long “non-coding” RNAs and their roles in the heart and brain, helping to illuminate new mechanisms underlying conditions such as heart failure and metabolic disease. Through this balanced basic and translational program, Dr. Boudreau contributes expertise in post-transcriptional gene regulation, RNA biology, and cardiovascular genetics to inform emerging precision therapies for patients with disorders linked to genes such as MED13L.
